Momentive SnapSil RTV118 is a one-component, ready-to-use adhesive sealant that cures at room temperature when exposed to atmospheric moisture, forming a tough and durable silicone rubber. Its versatile formulation makes it suitable for a wide range of bonding applications requiring flexibility and reliability. The curing process releases acetic acid vapors from the sealant's surface. Application involves ensuring clean, dry surfaces, applying the sealant evenly, and firmly pressing the surfaces together. Complete curing typically takes 24 hours, though this can vary depending on temperature and humidity.
The cured sealant demonstrates exceptional performance characteristics, including excellent low-temperature flexibility down to -60 C (-75 F) and a continuous operating temperature range up to 204 C (400 F), with intermittent capabilities up to 260 C (500 F). It possesses a tensile strength of 23 kg/cm (325 lb/in ), elongation of 325%, hardness of 25 Shore A, shear strength of 7 kg/cm (100 lb/in ), and peel strength of 3 kg/cm (15 lb/in ). Furthermore, SnapSil RTV118 provides excellent electrical insulation properties.
