3M Neoprene High Performance Contact Adhesive EC-1357 Gray-Green is a premium, solvent-based bonding agent engineered for the most demanding aerospace applications. Formulated with a high-solids neoprene polymer blend, EC-1357 delivers exceptional initial tack and rapid drying, enabling quick handling and assembly of critical components. Its gray-green tint provides clear visibility of adhesive coverage during application, ensuring uniform bond lines and reducing the risk of misalignment.
Key Features & Benefits
High Temperature Resistance: Maintains bond integrity from –65 °F (–54 °C) up to +180 °F (+82 °C) in continuous service, with short-term exposure up to +250 °F (+121 °C).
Superior Shear Strength: Exhibits lap shear values exceeding 200 psi on aluminum substrates, ensuring durable, load-bearing joins under vibration and thermal cycling.
Long Open Time: Up to 45 minutes of workable “open time” before assembly, ideal for large or complex laminations and multi-component fixtures.
Versatile Substrate Compatibility: Bonds metals, composite panels, fabrics, foams, rubbers, and many rigid plastics without pre-treatment.
California VOC Compliant: Meets strict California air quality regulations for aerospace use only, providing reduced environmental impact while adhering to industry standards.
Application & Curing
Surface Preparation: Clean and abrade all bonding surfaces. Remove oil, grease, and contaminants with an appropriate solvent.
Adhesive Application: Apply a uniform film (2–4 mil wet) to both surfaces using a roller, brush, or spray equipment.
Drying: Allow adhesive to flash until tacky to the touch (typically 10–15 minutes at 70 °F/21 °C).
Assembly: Mate parts under light pressure, then apply firm contact pressure (100–200 psi) or use clamping/rolling equipment.
Full Cure: Reach handling strength in 1–2 hours; full bond strength in 24 hours at room temperature.
Packaging & Storage
Supplied in 1 quart metal cans. Store in a cool, dry place (40–80 °F/4–27 °C) away from ignition sources. Keep container tightly closed when not in use. For complete safety and handling instructions, refer to the product’s Safety Data Sheet.
