Mirror Buttons with 3M Structural Bonding Tape are a permanent solution for efficient rearview mirror attachment to automotive glass. This tape and hardware system may help reduce scrap, in-plant labor and inventory costs. Multiple packaging options are available for these pre-taped components, which can potentially increase manufacturing efficiency for automated and manual processes.Designed for attaching rearview mirrors to automotive glass, mirror buttons are supplied pre-taped with 3M Structural Bonding Tape (SBT) to help improve process efficiency. 3M SBT is formulated for bonding hardware components to glass, such as rearview mirror components, sensor brackets and mounting pins. It is applied as a pressure-sensitive tape and then is heat-cured to achieve structural strength. 3M SBT provides excellent holding strength and may potentially be used for mounting heavier mirrors and multi-functional sensors. Its resistance to hot, humid environments allows for image stability and reduces reflected image distortion from vehicle vibrations. The pressure-sensitive adhesive feature allows for component application to glass without the need for fixturing during cure. This tape achieves structural strength during most windshield autoclave processes. Tape color changes from black to matte gray after curing.
